Safe Technology in School Communities

Welcome to Safe Technology in School Communities!

As wireless technology becomes increasingly integrated into the school environment, more people are coming together to examine its potential impact on students and staff. The increasing presence of wireless technology in schools has gained public attention as concerns grow over its potential impact on students and staff.

Educators, parents, and health professionals are raising important questions about the long-term effects of daily exposure to wireless radiation from Wi-Fi routers, tablets, laptops, and other connected devices.

With classrooms now filled with Wi-Fi routers, tablets, laptops, and other wireless devices, exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) has become a daily reality. While technology enhances learning opportunities, emerging research suggests that prolonged exposure to wireless radiation may have unintended health effects, raising questions about the long-term well-being of those in school environments. As awareness spreads, parents, educators, and policymakers are beginning to explore the potential risks and consider safer technology practices.

At Safe Technology in School Communities, we are dedicated to fostering healthier and safer learning environments for students, teachers, and families. We recognize that children need movement, touch, human relationships and time in nature to properly develop their brains and bodies. As advocates for responsible technology use, we aim to balance the benefits of digital tools with the need to protect mental, physical, and environmental well-being.

Let’s learn together about the serious mental and physical health risks especially to children from the invisible exposure we can’t see, hear, or smell. How much wireless radiation are the children and teachers in your school being exposed to every day now? How can they minimize their risks and enjoy devices safely?

Parents and educators working together can help our schools stay connected and protected with Best Technology Practices in Schools, creating healthier learning environments.

Who We Are
We are a passionate group of experts, educators, parents, grandparents, and health professionals, working with renowned expert organizations, united by a shared vision: creating school communities where technology enhances education without compromising health.

Our team collaborates with leading experts, a trusted professional resource in environmental health, digital wellness, and electromagnetic field (EMF) safety to provide evidence-based guidance and solutions.

Through research and discussion, we are uncovering evidence that suggests potential health and cognitive concerns, including disruptions to focus, sleep patterns, and overall well-being. This growing awareness is leading to conversations about safer technology practices and the need for policies that prioritize the health and development of children in learning spaces.

What is Safe Technology in School Communities?

Safe technology means using digital devices, internet connectivity, and learning tools in ways that minimize potential harms. This includes:

  • Reducing exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation by prioritizing wired internet connections.

  • Encouraging balanced screen time to support mental and physical health.

  • Promoting digital wellness practices for students, staff, and families.

  • Advocating for policies that prioritize safety and inclusivity in schools.

Why It’s Important to Get Involved
The widespread use of wireless technology in schools has raised valid concerns about its long-term impacts on health and development. Studies link overexposure to RF radiation and excessive screen time to issues like digital addiction, sleep disturbances, cognitive challenges, and more.

Digital Wellness:

Raising Awareness About Digital Dangers (RAAD), to support mental health and mitigate tech addiction.

Cris Rowan, occupational therapist, biologist, and international speaker reports "The ways we are raising and educating children and performing work are no longer sustainable. Studies show an alarming increase in behavioral, mental and developmental disorders concurrent with the rapid rise in screen technology use. "Sedentary, overstimulated, isolated and often neglected, today’s humans have never been sicker."

Unplugged Canada envisions a world where childhood is safeguarded as a time for curiosity, creativity, and authentic human connection. By signing this Pledge, you are committing to not providing your child(ren) with a smartphone until they reach at least 14 years of age

Sophie Winkleman, Alliance for Responsible Citizenship presents compelling arguments as she promotes balanced tech practices: She suggests text is more profoundly absorbed from a page than a screen. Handwriting is a deeper, calmer way to learn and installs learned information into the brain much more effectively than cutting, pasting, swiping, and typing. Smartboards are radiation emitting, and are simply not as effective as a teacher.

Sophie reports; governments are now committed to the high-speed rollout of AI experiments where children learn via screens directed by AI. Surveillance will intensify to track pupils progress, classrooms will be filled with cameras and listening devices. Voice recognition devices, and chatbot Shooters are already being piloted for classrooms. Why the rush to remove human beings from the learning experience...when millions should be spent on teachers, more recruitment, training and support? This rollout of technology has implications beyond learning and childrens' well being. It threatens privacy, liberty and democracy.

Digital Wellness practices can save a child or teacher from digital addiction, and/electromagnetic hypersensitivity (also known as, microwave sickness, electromagnetic illness syndrome, or electromagnetic intolerance).

The increasing use of personal devices in schools has also contributed to a noticeable decline in student behavior. Distractions from smartphones and other devices have disrupted classroom focus, leading to decreased attention spans and engagement during lessons. Social media, gaming, and messaging apps compete for students' attention, undermining their ability to concentrate on academic tasks.

Moreover, excessive screen time has been linked to increased anxiety, impulsivity, and difficulty regulating emotions, which can manifest as disruptive behaviors in the classroom. Instances of cyberbullying, inappropriate online activity, and overexposure to digital content further complicate the learning environment, straining peer relationships and student-teacher interactions.

To address these challenges, schools are developing clear policies that promote responsible device use and limit distractions, alongside programs that educate students on digital etiquette and wellness.

By prioritizing these strategies, schools can foster healthier, more focused learning environments that support positive behaviors and academic success.
